The Philosophy

Lip filler in Singapore is a medical injectable treatment in which hyaluronic acid filler is placed at the vermilion border, body of the lip or cupid's bow to address shape, proportion, definition and hydration, not volume alone. Planning starts from facial proportions and existing lip shape, and hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Key takeaways
  • Lip filler is hyaluronic acid gel placed with fine needles to adjust lip shape, proportion, border definition and hydration.
  • It suits thin, asymmetric or softly defined lips; planning starts from facial proportions rather than volume alone.
  • Suitability depends on lip anatomy, skin quality and your goals, and a consultation may conclude that no injection is advised.
  • It does not tighten skin or treat lines caused by muscle movement; those need different approaches.
  • Dr Sin Yong, an aesthetic physician, plans and performs each treatment personally, and hyaluronic acid can be reversed with hyaluronidase.

Lips That Look Like Yours — Only Better

Beautiful lips are not defined by volume alone. Proportion, projection, cupid's bow definition, the ratio of upper to lower lip, vermilion border crispness, hydration and surface texture all determine how natural — and how beautiful — a result appears. Dr Sin Yong's approach is architectural: every injection is planned according to your facial proportions, existing lip shape, skin quality and aesthetic goals.

The Treatment
A woman in a cream robe turned toward soft light, skin showing a natural hydrated sheen
Skin quality — texture, hydration, light reflectance — is a different complaint from lost volume.

Premium HA — Placed With Precision

Dr Sin Yong selects from a range of premium hyaluronic acid fillers calibrated for the lips — thin enough to flow naturally through delicate lip tissue, cohesive enough to provide lasting structure. Placement is strategic: vermilion border for definition, body of the lip for volume, cupid's bow for shape. Results are immediate. Mild swelling peaks at 24–48 hours and resolves within a week.

“Lips age by deflation and lengthening — colour alone cannot disguise either.”

— Dr Sin Yong

What Can Lip Enhancement Address?

Thin Lips

Add subtle, natural volume to upper and lower lips while maintaining proportion and avoiding an overdone appearance.

Asymmetry

Correct differences in volume, height or projection between the two sides of the lip for improved balance.

Undefined Borders

Sharpen the vermilion border and cupid's bow for lips that appear more defined, even without lipstick.

Volume Loss With Age

Restore youthful fullness to lips that have thinned over time. Address vertical lines around the mouth.

Projection

Enhance forward projection of the lips relative to the chin and nose for improved facial profile.

Hydration & Texture

Use ultra-fine HA to improve lip hydration, surface smoothness and natural plumpness without visible volume change.

The Treatment Process

01
Consultation & Planning

Dr Sin Yong assesses your lip anatomy, facial proportions and goals. A customised injection plan is mapped before any product is used.

02
Topical Anaesthesia

Topical numbing cream is applied for 20–30 minutes. Most HA fillers also contain lidocaine, making the procedure comfortable.

03
Precision Injection

Filler is placed using fine needles at strategic points — border, body, cupid's bow and corners — in small aliquots for even distribution.

04
Moulding & Review

Dr Sin Yong moulds the result immediately after injection and reviews with you. Minor adjustments can be made during the same session.

Who it suits, who should wait, who is referred on

Tends to suit

  • Thin lips where a modest, proportionate change is wanted
  • Mild asymmetry in height, volume or projection
  • Soft borders or a flattened cupid's bow
  • Dry, less defined lips where hydration is part of the aim

Better to wait

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active cold sore, infection or inflamed skin around the mouth
  • A goal lip filler cannot meet, such as a lip shape very different from your own

Referred on

  • Lumps or inflammation after earlier filler of unknown type → dermatology specialist assessment if needed
  • Lip changes that look like a skin condition rather than ageing → dermatology assessment
Who should not have this treatment
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infection or cold sore in or around the lips
  • Known allergy to hyaluronic acid products or lidocaine
  • Bleeding disorder, or blood-thinning medicine that has not been reviewed
  • Active autoimmune or inflammatory condition
  • Earlier filler of unknown type in the same area

People hoping for a dramatically different lip shape, or expecting filler to treat skin laxity and lines around the mouth, tend to respond poorly, because it is the wrong tool for those goals.

What happens, step by step

  1. Consultation and examination of lip anatomy, facial proportions and goals
  2. Written plan and quote, including the option of no treatment
  3. Treatment day: topical numbing, then small placements by fine needle with shaping and review in the same visit
  4. Review and adjustment, with any top-up timed at review

Risks, side effects and when to call

Swelling, tenderness, small bruises and a feeling of firmness are expected after lip filler and usually settle on their own. The lips can look uneven while swelling is present, so the shape is judged at review rather than on the day. Less commonly there can be lumps, asymmetry, a cold sore flare in people prone to them, or an overfilled look. Rarely, filler can block or compress a blood vessel, which is an emergency, or cause a delayed inflammatory reaction. Because the product is hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Assessment, small amounts and anatomical knowledge reduce risk, but never remove it.

Contact the clinic the same day if
  • Skin around the lips or nose turning white, grey, blue or mottled
  • Severe or increasing pain
  • Any change in vision (go to the nearest emergency department)
  • Hot, red, increasingly swollen lips, or fever
  • A hard, tender lump that appears later

See what to do if something feels wrong after a treatment.

Aftercare

First 24 hours

  • Avoid pressing or massaging the lips unless instructed
  • A gentle cool compress can ease warmth or swelling
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heat and alcohol while swelling settles

First week

  • Expect some swelling or small bruises and keep the lips moisturised
  • Avoid dental work and facial treatments unless the doctor agrees
  • Avoid very hot food and drink while the lips are tender

Sun

  • Avoid strong sun and heat such as saunas early on
  • Use sun protection on the lips and face

Skincare

  • Use gentle products near the mouth until tenderness settles
  • Restart active ingredients once the skin is comfortable

When to call

  • Skin colour change, severe pain or any vision change: contact the clinic at once, or go to emergency for vision change
  • A lump, increasing swelling or signs of infection

Before you book

What determines the fee

The fee depends on the amount and type of hyaluronic acid used, how many parts of the lip are treated (border, body, cupid's bow, corners), whether earlier filler has to be assessed first, and whether lip filler is combined with another treatment such as skin quality work. A written quote is given at consultation, after Dr Sin Yong has examined your lips and facial proportions. The consultation also decides whether treatment is advised at all, and a plan without injection is a legitimate outcome.

How quotes work at this practice: how we quote.

Myths we hear in clinic

“Lip filler always makes lips look overdone.”

An overdone look usually comes from too much product or poor planning, which is why proportion is assessed before anything is placed.

“Bigger volume is the goal for every lip.”

Border definition, proportion and hydration often shape the look of the lips more than volume does.

Frequently Asked Questions — Lip Enhancement

Dr Sin Yong's guiding principle is that lip enhancement should never look 'done'. He tailors every treatment to your facial proportions and existing lip shape. The goal is always lips that look like an improved version of yours.

Topical numbing cream is applied before treatment, and most premium HA fillers contain lidocaine anaesthetic. Most patients describe mild pressure or stinging at most.

Duration varies with the product used, the volume injected and individual metabolism. Lip fillers metabolise faster than fillers in less mobile areas. Whether and when to top up is discussed at review.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved at any point using hyaluronidase enzyme. This provides a safety net if results are not as expected, though with a precise injector this is rarely necessary.

Swelling and mild bruising are common in the first 24–72 hours. Swelling peaks at 48 hours and resolves within a week. Recovery is discussed at consultation.

Fees are not published because they depend on the amount and type of hyaluronic acid, which parts of the lip are treated, whether earlier filler needs assessing and whether another treatment is combined. A written quote is given at consultation, after Dr Sin Yong has examined your lips, and the consultation also decides whether treatment is advised.

It can be worthwhile for people with thin, asymmetric or softly defined lips who want a proportionate change and accept that swelling and bruising are part of recovery. It is a poor fit for those wanting a very different lip shape, or expecting filler to treat skin laxity or lines caused by muscle movement around the mouth.

Swelling and bruising are common at first, results can look uneven until swelling settles, and treatment needs repeating if you wish to maintain it. Lumps, asymmetry, cold sore flares and an overfilled look can occur. Rarely, a blocked blood vessel is an emergency. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved, but dissolving is a further procedure.
